Michael Terry, owner and operator, served his apprenticeship in Tacoma, Wa.
in the early 1970's under the tutelage of Joe Trumbly. He returned to New
England and was employed as a shipwright and rigger at Essex Boatworks for
10 years. His credits include: lofting and constructing the 24' Benford designed
Friendship sloop "Prelude"; the restoration of the 45' Stadel schooner "Halcyon"
which he and his family cruised throughout New England and the Bahamas; the
restoration of the 48' Sparkman and Stephens wooden yawl "Tomahawk" over a
period of 16 years.
Our service prides itself in reliability, attention to detail , and the highest quality hand craftsmanship with an artisan’s eye. Projects of 2006 included:
The launching and commissioning of "Aucoot", a 1939 "Prudence" sloop designed by L. Francis Herreshoff. During the course of its 3 year rebuild at our shop in Stonington, the following work was accomplished: replacement of 16 bottom planks, 80% of original framing, deck, deck beams, cabintop, maststep, rudder, floortimbers, toerails, rubrails, cabin trim, cabin doors, cockpit floor, and seats. In addition, the bottom was recaulked and refastened. All spars were stripped and refinished; all new bronze deck hardware was installed in keeping with the original design. After a summer in Norwalk Harbor, "Aucoot" was trucked back to the shop where a new interior is currently being fabricated and installed.

The following work was performed onsite prior to launching: fabricate solid mahogany cockpit sole; laminate new tiller; parcel and serve spliced eyes in standing rigging; replace running rigging; replace spreaders; strip and varnish spars; install new deck hardware in keeping with original design; perform annual paint and varnish maintenance..
21' Boothbay Harbor OD by Geerd Hendel: lift off cradle and turn bottom up. Reef out bottom and topside seams, caulk, and pay; fair hull, putty, prime, and paint.
